This year's World Environment Day focuses on forests - the lungs of our planet, home to 80% of terrestrial biodiversity, and critical carbon sinks in the fight against climate change.
Forests provide livelihoods for 1.6 billion people. They filter our water, clean our air, and regulate our climate. Yet we lose approximately 10 million hectares of forest each year.
The UN Decade on Ecosystem Restoration (2021-2030) calls on us to prevent, halt, and reverse the degradation of ecosystems worldwide. Forests are central to this mission.
