International Museum Day · May 18
The Museum is a generative web experience created for International Museum Day (May 18). It celebrates the role of museums in preserving human heritage and inspiring curiosity.
Museums are time machines. They preserve objects that outlast their makers and contexts, allowing future generations to touch the past. A clay tablet from Mesopotamia, a fossil from the Jurassic, a photograph from the last century — each artifact is a message in a bottle, sent across time.
But museums are also about questions: What do we choose to preserve? Whose stories are told? How do we interpret objects created in contexts we can never fully understand?
This generative museum plays with the form: it contains artifacts from lost civilizations alongside future relics, impossible objects beside curiosities that blur fact and fiction. The museum as a concept — the act of collecting, preserving, displaying — is itself the exhibit.
Built as a CGI shell script for splendid.horse. Each visit generates a fresh arrangement of artifacts. The same seed word on the same day yields the same exhibition — tomorrow brings new arrangements.
International Museum Day was established by ICOM (International Council of Museums) in 1977 to raise awareness about the important role of museums in society. May 18 was chosen as a date in spring when many museums are preparing special exhibitions and programs.
