Description

A creeping groundcover spreading by underground rhizomes. Broad, paddle-shaped leaves with prominent parallel veins.

Five-petaled blooms spiral open in a Fibonacci pattern, colored deep violet. Blooms after the first frost.

Habitat

Thrives in coastal dunes and salt-spray zones.

Traditional Uses

Dried flowers were burned as incense during ceremonies.
