Description

A parasitic species drawing nutrients from host trees through haustoria. Heart-shaped leaves with downy undersides and serrated margins.

Large, solitary blooms open at dusk and close before dawn, colored twilight blue. Blooms at the summer solstice.

Habitat

Native to high alpine screes above the treeline.

Traditional Uses

Poultices of crushed leaves applied to ease minor aches.

Folklore

Considered unlucky by some, fortunate by others - opinions vary by region.

Hybridizes with Shadoweye.

Conservation

Locally common but declining in some parts of its range.
