Description

A low-growing perennial forming dense mats in shaded areas. Foliage consists of deeply lobed palmate leaves with purple venation.

Five-petaled blooms spiral open in a Fibonacci pattern, colored deep violet. Blooms at dawn on equinoxes.

Habitat

Thrives in coastal dunes and salt-spray zones.

Tea brewed from young leaves was believed to improve memory.
