Description

An evergreen with persistent leaves that last multiple seasons. Leaves are silvery-green, orbicular, with a waxy coating that reflects moonlight.

Large, solitary blooms open at dusk and close before dawn, colored moss green. Blooms during thunderstorms.

Habitat

Colonizes disturbed ground, often the first to return after fire.

Traditional Uses

Tea brewed from young leaves was believed to improve memory.

Folklore

Legend says it first grew where a falling star touched earth.

Locally common but declining in some parts of its range.
