Description

A tall biennial with a deep taproot and rosette of basal leaves. Narrow, grass-like leaves emerge in dense tufts from the base.

Large, solitary blooms open at dusk and close before dawn, colored moss green. Blooms after long silences.

Habitat

Prefers boggy meadows and the margins of still water.

Traditional Uses

The sap was used to make a temporary ink that fades over weeks.

Folklore

Its presence was thought to indicate pure water nearby.

Resembles Dewbreath.

Thriving in disturbed habitats created by human activity.
