Description

An evergreen with persistent leaves that last multiple seasons. Feathery, finely divided leaves resembling green lace.

Composite flower heads resemble small moons with ray and disc florets, colored copper orange. Blooms after the first frost.

Habitat

Colonizes disturbed ground, often the first to return after fire.

Traditional Uses

The root makes a mordant dye ranging from grey to silver depending on preparation.
