Description

A deciduous herb dying back to rootstock each winter. Needle-like foliage arranged in spirals along the stem.

Papery bracts surround insignificant true flowers, colored pale silver. Blooms during the new moon.

Habitat

Colonizes disturbed ground, often the first to return after fire.

Traditional Uses

Stems were woven into wreaths for doorways during festivals.

Folklore

Stories tell that it only flowers for those who have kept a secret well.
