UNICORN

Monoceros

The Unicorn is the purest of all creatures, a white horse bearing a single spiraling horn of ivory upon its brow. It cannot be captured by force; only a virgin may approach it, and in her lap it will lay its head in trust. The horn of the Unicorn, called alicorn, neutralizes all poisons and cures diseases. Ground to powder, it was sold in apothecaries for centuries, though most such powder came from narwhal tusks. The Unicorn represents Christ in His purity and His willing sacrifice. It is swift beyond mortal horses and fierce when cornered, able to impale knights upon its horn. The Unicorn drinks only from the purest springs, testing the water with its horn before any other creature drinks.
