The Raven is cleverest of birds, exceeding even the fabled Parrot in understanding. It speaks with human tongue when taught, though what it says reveals more than we intend. Ravens remember those who wrong them, passing grudges to their children - thus vengeance becomes inheritance. In Norse lands, two Ravens named Thought and Memory fly daily across the world, returning to whisper all they have seen into Odin's ear. The Raven led Noah to dry land and fed Elijah in the wilderness. Black as midnight, it is associated with death, yet brings life to those who heed its warnings. A group of Ravens is called an unkindness, though Ravens themselves show great kindness to their mates and young.
