BASILISK

Basiliscus

The Basilisk, or King of Serpents, is born from a rooster's egg hatched by a toad. Its gaze kills; its breath withers plants; its passage leaves a trail of death. Even its reflection can slay, which is also its weakness - confront a Basilisk with a mirror and it dies of its own poison. The weasel is immune to the Basilisk's gaze and hunts it, though both usually perish in the combat. Roosters crow at dawn, and their cry kills any Basilisk within hearing. The Basilisk represents sin, which destroys those who look upon it but cannot survive exposure to truth. It is small - no larger than a foot in length - yet more deadly than any giant.

Habitat Desert caves and abandoned ruins
Sustenance Nothing survives near enough to be eaten
Symbolism Evil's self-defeating nature, the power of small terrors
